Trattoria

Trattoria is a furniture concept study exploring the contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional trattoria chair.

The project started from the question of how a modest, anonymous piece of furniture could be translated into a contemporary product without losing its warmth, simple archetype and local character. Rather than treating tradition as a visual style, the design looks at the structural and emotional qualities behind the archetype: the ladder-back construction, the upward gesture of the rear legs, the rhythm of the horizontal rails, and the friendly curvature of the seat and backrest.

The resulting concept keeps the chair intentionally quiet, but gives it a more defined identity through carefully developed details. The horizontal elements follow a coherent curvature system, creating a subtle transition between the ergonomic geometry of the seat and the softer, more expressive line of the backrest. The proportions, profiles and edges were refined to make the chair suitable for contemporary hospitality interiors while preserving the approachable character associated with traditional trattorias.

Different material and upholstery configurations were explored to show how the same structural logic could adapt to various restaurant atmospheres - from simple wooden versions to more elevated upholstered or woven interpretations.

As a concept study, Trattoria reflects our research-led approach to furniture design: understanding cultural context, identifying typological values, and transforming them into a clear product direction.
