Silver Arc

One of the central questions behind Silver Arc was how to rethink the assistive elements that may become increasingly useful as our physical abilities change over time - handles, grab rails and supports - not as technical add-ons to be hidden, or as elements associated with clinical and orthopaedic environments, but as a distinctive visual language capable of defining the collection as a whole. I chose formed aluminium profiles that bend, curve and twist through the furniture, becoming structural elements through a series of cast junctions. A recurring twist in the profile gives the collection a strong visual identity rather than disguising its supportive function. The gesture also carries a broader message: growing older does not mean losing the desire for objects that are beautiful, expressive or individual. Older people are no more homogeneous in their tastes than any other age group.

Silver Arc was designed to evolve with its user. Rather than assuming that supportive furniture only enters someone's life once a certain level of assistance is required, the collection considers that the same piece may already belong to the user at an earlier stage of life and gradually adapt as their needs change. Interchangeable cushions of different heights can alter seating position, while armrest-like grab rails and additional supports can be introduced later to provide greater stability and assist with sitting down and standing up. The furniture does not anticipate a fixed condition; it accommodates change.

Cleanability and long-term hygiene were treated as integral design requirements. The upholstered elements use a layered construction with removable and washable covers, while the PU foam underneath is protected by a waterproof coating. The selected upholstery is hypoallergenic, washable and exceptionally soft, reducing irritation even for more sensitive skin.

‍DOUBLE-BED

The bed follows the same principle of gradual adaptation. Its standard legs can be replaced with heavy-duty lockable castors when greater mobility becomes necessary. Support rails can be added independently near the headboard and along the lower section of the bed, allowing the configuration to respond to different levels of mobility and assistance. The rails provide additional points of support during movement, help reduce the risk of falling, and can also accommodate removable soft padding for greater comfort and protection.

Like the sofa, the bed is designed with a concealed, easily accessible area beneath the upholstery where electronic functions can be integrated as needs change. These may range from charging or connectivity ports to an emergency call button linked to a caregiver or support person, allowing additional functions to be introduced without altering the fundamental character of the furniture.

MOBILE SUPPORT TABLE

The mobile support tables combine a small personal surface with an additional point of support that can move through the home with the user. Their wheeled base allows everyday objects to remain within easy reach, while the extended aluminium profile forms an intuitive handle that can provide additional stability when moving between spaces. Different configurations accommodate different routines: a minimal version provides a generous surface, while the second adds an integrated storage compartment for personal belongings. Rather than introducing a separate assistive object into the interior, the support function is incorporated into a familiar piece of furniture and expressed through the same sculptural aluminium language used throughout the Silver Arc collection.
