Line and Round Studio was invited to design a unified trophy series for a national state award system celebrating outstanding achievements in Hungarian sport. The task was to develop five trophies, each representing a different field of excellence and named after iconic figures in the country’s sports history.

The concept builds on the interplay of unity and differentiation: five symbolic characters interpreted through a consistent formal language. The trophies share a cylindrical, slightly tapering body structure, referencing classical columns, mechanical precision, and the organic dynamics of human musculature. Their surfaces feature subtle grooves and transitions that evoke the spiral forms of machined elements as well as the structural rhythm of muscle fibres.

Each trophy is crowned by a unique, geometrically abstracted symbol that reflects the spirit of the award's namesake and its associated domain:

• Bay Béla Award – Fencing
A sharp, triangular composition referencing the swift gestures and concentration of fencing.

• Csik Ferenc Award – Swimming
A fluid, decagon-based form evoking motion, rhythm, and flow.

• Eszterházy Miksa Award – Diplomacy
A pentagonal geometry symbolizing institutional stability and structured leadership.

• Kerezsi Endre Award – Youth
A blooming eight-petal shape expressing vitality, education, and potential.

• Kemény Ferenc Award – Science
A stylized atomic motif based on a hexagon, referencing research and intellectual contribution.

The project also incorporates subtle visual references to the Olympic Games, which hold a central role in Hungarian sports identity. The five parallel trophies recall the iconic five rings in their shared presence, while the elongated cylindrical shape resonates with the visual language of Olympic torches. The upper ornamental structures subtly echo the form and cultural memory of medals.

The overall design strives to strike a balance between tradition and innovation, symbolism and function, creating trophies that are not only emblematic and durable, but also carry sculptural value and narrative depth.

Typography featured on the trophies was designed by János Hunor Vári, whose contribution is gratefully acknowledged.
